Monument Academy school closings or delays due to inclement weather will generally be the same as Lewis Palmer District 38. In the event that Monument Academy is delaying or closing different from District 38, there will be a separate announcement on the local radio and television stations, posting on our website, and issuing of a Campus Messenger email.

School may also be closed unexpectedly or canceled, due to severe weather, power failure, heating problems, or for other reasons.


PARENTS AND CHILDREN ARE URGED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE LOCAL RADIO AND TELEVISION STATIONS, POSTINGS ON THE MA WEBSITE, AND/OR EMAIL DURING QUESTIONABLE MORNINGS -- PLEASE DO NOT CALL SCHOOLS, OR ADMINISTRATORS WITH CALLS OF INQUIRY -- THEIR PHONES ARE NEEDED TO IMPLEMENT THESE INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURES.

I. BEFORE SCHOOL IS DELAYED OR CANCELED FOR THE DAY, MA WILL:
...make inclement weather decisions based on student, parent, and staff safety.

...collect data at the earliest appropriate time. Administrators will check with the National Weather Service, County and State Departments of Transportation, area law enforcement agencies, and area school districts. Personnel will drive selected District roads.

II. IN THE EVENT THAT SCHOOL IS CANCELED FOR THE DAY, MA WILL:
...make the decision as soon as possible as to whether school will be open, delayed or closed and announce that decision by notifying local radio and television stations, posting it on our website, and issuing a Campus Messenger email.

...cancel all field trips, after-school and evening activities, sports, meetings.

   PARENTS ARE EXPECTED TO:
...make arrangements for the care of their children in the event school is canceled.

...
pay close attention to the local radio and television stations, postings on our website, and/or email during questionable mornings.

III. IN THE EVENT THAT A SCHOOL IS DELAYED, MA WILL:
...make the decision as soon as possible to delay the start of school by two hours based on student, parent, and staff safety.

...cancel morning kindergarten classes and morning preschool programs.

...open the school building two hours later than normal schedule.

...make a decision by 7:45 am to cancel the delayed start and close school for the entire day if weather or road conditions do not improve. This change will be announced
by notifying local radio and television stations, posting it on our website, and issuing a Campus Messenger email.

   PARENTS ARE EXPECTED TO:
...arrange for the care of their children if they are unable to provide it.

...decide whether or not to send students to school on days when the weather is threatening and/or stormy.

...send children to school at the delayed start time rather than the normal time.

...pay close attention to the local radio and television stations, postings on our website, and/or email during questionable mornings.

IV. IN THE EVENT OF AN EARLY DISMISSAL, MA WILL:

will announce the decision to dismiss classes early by notifying local radio and television stations, posting it on our website, and issuing a Campus Messenger email.  Dismissal times will be included in such announcements.

...cancel afternoon kindergarten classes and afternoon preschool programs.

...cancel all field trips, after-school and evening activities, sports, and meetings.
