MA is a parent driven school. The MA chapter of the Parent Teacher Organization (MA PTO) works as partners with the school administration, staff and the MA School Board of Directors. A wide variety of extracurricular activities are sponsored and driven by parent volunteers.

The MA PTO is requesting funding to provide a green, usable playing field at Monument Academy. Currently the playground doesn’t permit its students from doing so after rain storms. The playground/playfield is frequently underwater after a rainfall because of poor drainage, inadequate retaining walls, improper slope and an insufficient surface to accommodate grass. Even on days without rain, the playground is a dusty, unforgiving surface that is laden with multiple indentations. The benefits of having children play outdoors has been well documented in the literature. The field will be used not only for MA students at recess time and for sports activities but its projected use will be available to other District 38 students, as well as, the Tri-Lakes community at large.

The total funds needed range from $150,000.00 to $500,000.00, which is the amount projected after initial meetings with potential vendors and contractors. The exact cost will depend on the data collected during the planning phase of the project. Funds are needed immediately and until the project is completed. Immediate funds will be used for expenses incurred during Phase 1 (planning phase) of the project, which includes survey work, soil/core samples by civil engineers and city/county permit applications.

As funds are collected, Phase 2 will begin to prepare and the lay down the foundation of the field to include earth moving and preparation work.

Phase 3 will entail the installation of turf and finishing preparation to make the field usable.

MA PTO Green4Green Campaign was initiated in early 2015 and has been diligently working toward achieving its fundraising goals. Nearly a dozen fundraising activities have been initiated from letter writing campaigns to solicitation of funds from local businesses to planning a black tie silent auction and fundraising event scheduled for this fall season.
