Dear MA East Families,

I hope you are enjoying your break!

I wanted to get the information about next week’s schedule to you early this week so that you could make a note of it and then put it aside to enjoy your family time together.

The week after the break (November 30- December 4) will be a remote learning week for all students. The schedule and procedures will look different than they do for quarantines or for our current at-home learners. We did take some time this past week to discuss this with students so that we would be a bit more prepared if it came to pass.

The plans must necessarily change when all students are learning from home. Our current on-line learning schedule is sustainable only with our at-home learners and a portion of quarantine students. To teach all students remotely while sustaining the same curriculum and learning, all students will follow a different at-home schedule that utilizes their schedules found in Infinite Campus.

Students will mark their attendance DAILY by using the attendance app found on their iPad screens. It is the same attendance app that they use on Fridays. Please ensure that your student marks attendance every morning before classes.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, students will attend live Zooms on the hour starting at 8:00. They will attend first period at 8:00, second period at 9:00, third period at 10:00, and fourth period at 11:00. It is expected that all students will attend live, even those at-home students who currently attend asynchronously. It is also important that students sign into their live Zoom sessions on time.  Teachers will be taking attendance daily in their live classes by calling roll and marking absences.

After lunch, students will finish out their day asynchronously for periods 5, 6, & 7. There will be recorded videos of the class and/or assignments and projects posted. Please check for a video first by going into the Canvas course. On the left hand side there is a button that says “Zoom”.  Click that link and it will open a page for Zooms. Now you will look across the top and find the link that says, “Cloud Recordings”. When you click on it, it will take you to a page that has the recordings of the class listed by date.

There will not be live Zooms for these afternoon classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will attend live Zooms on the hour starting at 8:00, except they will start with period 5. They will go to fifth period at 8:00, sixth period at 9:00, and seventh period at 10:00. It is expected that all students will attend live and they will be on time. Teachers will be taking attendance daily in their live classes by calling roll and marking absences.

Before and after lunch, students will finish out their day asynchronously for periods 1, 2, 3, & 4. There will not be live Zooms for these afternoon classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Math teachers will communicate their daily afternoon office hours.

Friday will remain an entirely asynchronous day with office hours for all students and all subjects.

Zoom links can be found on teacher’s Canvas home pages. Teachers will go over Zoom classroom expectations, but it would also be helpful for you to discuss these expectations with your student. They are attached.

I have also attached a printable schedule for your students to fill out if they haven’t done so already. The only difference between this printable schedule and the one they may have previously created is that the morning Zoom hours have switched to “on the hour” to provide for easier remembering as well as a bit of a break built in between live Zooms.

Thank you for your continued flexibility, as we desire to remain open for all students. Hopefully, this one-week reset will allow us to continue in person up through Winter Break and beyond.

I wish you a restful and joyful Thanksgiving Break!

Sincerely,

Julie Seymour

Principal, East Campus
