Who leads Monument Academy?

As a charter school, our leadership is rooted in our community. Our Board of Directors consists of five current Monument Academy parents who volunteer their time to oversee the school’s strategic direction, financial health, and policy creation. This ensures that the voices of our families are directly represented in the school’s governance.

How does the school ensure student safety?

Safety is our top priority, and we utilize a multi-layered approach to protect our students:

  • Professional Security: We have a full-time School Resource Officer on both campuses and a strong partnership with the Monument Police Department.
  • Trained Personnel: We maintain armed staff on campus to provide an immediate layer of protection.
  • Secure Environment: Once the school day begins, our buildings are placed under a Level 1 Lockdown. All visitors must check in at the front desk and pass through the Raptor background check system.
  • Culture of Care: Beyond physical security, we focus on building strong relationships so students feel safe, supported, and comfortable learning from their mistakes.

What is the school’s approach to technology?

We take a traditional, intentional approach to technology. While we prepare students to use technology as a tool for the future, we limit its use in the classroom to prioritize:

  • Cognitive Development: Research indicates that limited technology access can lead to higher cognitive levels and more critical thinking.
  • Core Literacy: We emphasize foundational skills, including daily writing, grammar, and the mastery of cursive.
  • Socratic Dialogue: We focus on teaching students how to think and communicate effectively through public speaking and rigorous discussion.

How are curriculum and school policies decided?

Our parent-led Board of Directors has the autonomy to write and approve policies that reflect the specific needs of our students. This includes selecting curriculum that aligns with our mission and navigating state and federal laws with a “students-first” perspective. You can review our full Board Policies and Resolutions for more detail.

Is Monument Academy a good fit for my child?

We believe in the power of school choice. We encourage all prospective families to explore our mission and values to see if our traditional, safety-focused, and parent-led environment aligns with their educational goals.
